The mechanism behind the termination of Ice age events is yet to be fully determined. With many positive feedbacks influencing deglaciation, the causative way these feedback cycles interact, need careful consideration. The influence of volcanic dust (tephra) induced albedo reversals on the continental ice sheets may play an important part in this mechanism. I will present data recorded in the ice cores and new modelling results to show how tephra can generate albedo reversals capable of explaining the rapid deglaciations through the Pleistocene.
